About Breast Augmentation

Also known as augmentation mammaplasty, the procedure involves using either saline or silicone gel implants to fulfill your desire for fuller breasts or to restore breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy.
Breast augmentation does not correct severely drooping breasts. If you want your breasts to look fuller and to be lifted due to sagging, a  breast lift procedure may be required in conjunction with breast augmentation.
Breast lifting can often be done at the same time as your augmentation or may require a separate operation. Breast augmentation may be a good option for you if:

  • You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts are too small
  • You are dissatisfied with your breasts losing shape and volume after pregnancy, weight loss, or with aging
  • Your breasts vary in size or shape
  • One or both breasts failed to develop normally

Dr. Tachmes has a special interest in reconstructive or revisional breast surgery for patients who have undergone previous breast surgery and are experiencing saline or silicone breast implant related problems.  "There exists a growing population of women with breast implant related complications who require complex and sophisticated revisional surgery solutions for their unique issues," says Dr. Tachmes.  "Each patient must be evaluated individually, and a customized surgical plan must be tailored to address and correct their aesthetic deformities."  Procedures involve removal of existing breast implants, repair of pocket deformities, removal of breast pocket scar tissue, secondary mastopexy procedures and re-augmentation with new saline or silicone implants.  "The goal is always to achieve and restore a natural, anatomically correct breast shape and symmetry," he says.
